Horsemanship Camp builds upon basics taught in Horse Day Camp. Campers do not need to have any previous horse experience although it may prove helpful. Campers will trail ride every day and even have a chance for an overnight trail ride weather permitting. Not only will campers have a chance to learn how to ride horses, they will also learn different ground lessons about horses. Feed and nutrition, gaits and footfalls, breeds, colors and markings, how to give a health checkup, showmanship, trailer loading and horse dentistry are just some of the options we offer as ground lessons.

Besides, ground lessons and trail rides this week focuses on the discipline of riding, arena work, and how horses can teach us about our Lord. Campers will also get to participate in other camp activities such as our 250 foot waterslide, Octa-Ball, knife throwing and more. Campers will work together to perform a drill team pattern and other skills they have learned at the closing program Saturday morning.

There is a weight limit of 250 lbs. for all riders. It is highly recommended that you have the ability to mount and dismount the horse with minimal assistance. If you would like to bring your own horse, contact GAC to obtain the necessary forms, boarding costs, and vaccination requirements.
